Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur said two-thirds of the car would need to be changed out and called the situation "unacceptable." "These cars are generating huge amounts of suction underneath now," said Williams Racing team principal James Vowles. Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff lashed out at a reporter who asked how the cancelled practice was not a "black eye" for F1. The brief first test of the course along the transformed Strip marks F1's return to Las Vegas for the first time in nearly 40 years.

F1 team bosses have their own light-bulb moment

LONDON, Feb 26 (Reuters) - The late McLaren boss Teddy Mayer liked to compare Formula One drivers to interchangeable light-bulbs, declaring "you plug them in and they do the job", and nowadays the same might be said for team principals. The Frenchman is on his third different team, after stints at Sauber and Renault. "It shows also that the role of the team principal is maybe sometimes also a bit over-rated because if you can change it so quickly and there is no big impact, it tells also something. Sauber, with Swedish billionaire Finn Rausing as chairman of the board, will become the Audi works team from 2026. "But other than that we must not forget that F1 teams have developed into big organisations where the owners are not any more the team principals... some have engineers as team principals, some have more an old-fashioned rule."

MILAN, Feb 7 (Reuters) - Ferrari (RACE.MI) said on Tuesday it had appointed Lorenzo Giorgetti to the newly-created position of chief racing revenue officer, tasked with boosting long-term relations with sponsors across all racing activities. Among his previous posts Giorgetti has been chief commercial officer at Serie A soccer club AC Milan and head of commercial management in the sports division of Italian publisher RCS Mediagroup (RCSM.MI), Ferrari said in a statement. He will directly report to Ferrari's CEO Benedetto Vigna and will also cover the booming Esports field of videogame sport competitions. It comes just after Ferrari appointed Frenchman Frederic Vasseur as its new Formula One team principal in an effort to regain competitiveness in its flagship competition. Ferrari's revenues from 'sponsorship, commercial and brand', which include those earned by its Formula One racing team through sponsorship agreements, rose 11% last year to 479 million euros ($512 million).

Audi's entry into Formula 1 has moved a step closer after the German car manufacturer acquired a minority stake in Sauber. The purchase comes three months after Sauber confirmed they would become Audi's strategic partner when the German marque enters Formula 1 in 2026. On Jan. 14, Andreas Seidl replaced Vasseur as Sauber's chief executive after the latter joined Ferrari , and will oversee Audi's entry into F1. In a statement sent to Sky Sports, an Audi spokesperson said this is a "key milestone" for the German's F1 entry in 2026.
Vasseur starts a new era for Ferrari with big targets

Schumacher won an unprecedented five crowns in a row from 2000-04 under Todt's leadership while Ferrari won seven constructors' championships between 1999 and the end of 2007, when Kimi Raikkonen took their last drivers' title. Vasseur, 54, is an old hand and on his third F1 team after joining Renault in 2016. The team have still not won a title since 2008 and have been making some glaring mistakes with their fans increasingly frustrated. Vasseur, who joins from Swiss-based Sauber where he ran the Ferrari-powered Alfa Romeo team, has more than nationality in common with Todt. Nicolas Todt manages Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc, last year's runner-up who also raced for Vasseur at Sauber in his debut season.
Audi F1 deal marks a big step up for Swiss-based Sauber

LONDON, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Sauber's transformation into the Audi works Formula One team from 2026, announced on Wednesday, is a big step up for the Swiss-based outfit who now have a real possibility of returning to the top of the podium. Audi will build the engines in Bavaria and that is familiar territory for Sauber, who entered Formula One in 1993 and whose last stint as a proper works team was with BMW between 2006-2010. "The partnership between Audi AG and Sauber Motorsport is a key step for our team as we continue to make progress towards the front of the grid," said Sauber Motorsport CEO and team principal Frederic Vasseur. Adam Baker, who is now chief executive of Audi's Formula One project, was a race team engineer at BMW Sauber where in 2007 he also became head of the race and test team for the BMW F1 Powertrain. Then, as now, Sauber offered the attractive prospect of a ready made team without the hassle and expense of starting from scratch.
